E-commerce as a tool for transformation of business. The most remarkable facet of the emerging 'digital economy' is electronic commerce. The Internet, which enables e-commerce, is radically changing not only the way businesses serve and communicate with their customers, but also the way they manage their relations with suppliers and partners.

Both the new Internet-based companies and the traditional producers of goods and services are transforming their business processes into e-commerce processes in an effort to lower costs, improve customer service, and increase productivity.

The value of e-commerce transactions worldwide is growing exponentially and is expected to reach $ 3.2 trillion by the year 2003.

Driven by customer demand and business imperatives, the digital economy is becoming truly global. In May 1999, 171 million people across the globe had access to the Internet, over half of them in North America. While North America and Europe occupied a large absolute share of the Internet world, Asia-Pacific is catching up fast. It is estimated that by 2003, the Asia-Pacific region, with 81 million Internet users, will overtake Europe and become the world's second-largest Internet user population.

Some excerpts from the media:-
"Consumers spent $8 billion online in 1998, and that figure is expected to grow to roughly $130 billion in the next four years. But that's just the beginning."

Why should your organization be on the Net?
The Internet currently has about 65 million users with about 10,000 new users coming on-line daily.
According to a Cowles / Simba report entitled 'The Electronic Marketplace 1997: Strategies For Connecting Buyers & Sellers,' electronic sales of tangible goods totaled $993.4 million in 1996, a 61.8 percent increase over $613.9 million in 1995, Internet-based sales represented 73.1 percent or $733.1 million of all electronic sales in 1996 and are estimated to reach 10 billion by the year 2,003.

In a recent survey of Fortune 500 Companies the CEOs estimated that 45% 0f their sales would be generated by the net by the year 2,000,which would go up to 53% by year 2003

The dynamic growth in users and sales generated on the net gives you opportunities that can't be found in any other media. The statement by the CEOs mentioned above gives you an idea of how important the net will become to your sales in the future. Now is the time to get in on this growth!

According to Business Week, "E-Commerce between businesses is five times as much as consumer E-commerce, or about $43 billion last year. And by 2003, Forrester Research predicts that e-commerce between businesses will balloon to $1.3 trillion. That's 10 times consumer e-commerce, constituting 9% of all US business trade, and more than the gross domestic product of Britain or Italy."
